Sanford Michelman was frustrated with being told that "it has always been done that way" as a Partner in a Los Angeles based firm early in his career. He decided to form a new firm, one grounded in a commitment to delivering advice to clients after exploring all the obvious and not so obvious options. This vision required a non-wavering commitment to thinking like a client - like an entrepreneur. Mr. Michelman knew that each client matter was unique. Not all client matters have the same dynamics and each requires complex reasoning and understanding of the issues, both legal and non-legal. It was not enough to simply understand and comprehend the law. Clients did not want an attorney that must learn their business while representing them in a transaction or litigation. Mr. Michelman understood this premise. He believes that in order to provide quality legal services, an attorney must first understand the industry in which the client is conducting business, how the client operates within its own industry and how the law has developed and is applied to the client and industry. From this, Mr. Michelman created his own standard of delivering quality legal services. Mark Robinson shared in the philosophy and vision of Mr. Michelman.

Having worked together at a former firm, Mr. Michelman and Mr. Robinson agreed to form a new firm where everyone shared the same drive, passion and commitment. The Partnership formed in the course of fifteen minutes over lunch. The partnership agreement was simple; M&R would only invite attorneys to the firm committed to progressive and entrepreneurial thinking about client issues. Their new partnership crystalized the expression that "the client comes first."

From inception, M&R has kept its commitment having only hired or invited new attorneys that share in this non-wavering commitment to client matters. Since that time, M&R attorneys have served in the capacity of State Commissioner, Judges Pro Tem, mediators, arbitrators, experts, board of directors of private and public companies and have received awards from the State Bar for Pro Bono services, awards and accolades from trade associations. M&R attorneys have been featured on covers of magazines, been recognized every year as California's "Super Lawyers" since inception of the designation in 2003, and within the "Top 20 under 40" list, been recognized as California's "Rising Stars", among other notable achievements.

Our attorneys practice in both State and Federal Courts and have argued and prevailed before the California Supreme Court, a unique experience shared by only a handful of attorneys. As a result of our commitment to our clients, M&R has expanded throughout the State and now has offices in Los Angeles, Orange County, and San Francisco.
