What kind of training and development opportunities does MR offer associates?
MR invests heavily in associate growth. Young lawyers are actively mentored and formally trained. Exhibit “A” is our proprietary Trial Advocacy Program (TAP), which teaches junior litigators the basics of trial advocacy, and culminates with a mock trial—complete with a retired judge on the bench and actual jurors from an outside service. We also offer seminars through Michelman Robinson University (MRU) that cover continuing legal education (MR is a State Bar approved CLE provider), professional development and skills training, practice and industry updates, business development, and sessions focused on communications and law firm operations.
How soon do associates get substantive experience?
From day one. Associates at MR are trusted with meaningful, hands-on work early in their careers. Litigation and transactional associates are involved in cases and deals right away, often with direct client contact and always with partner engagement to accelerate the learning curve.
What’s the firm’s culture really like?
Collegial, collaborative, and genuinely supportive. Our associates describe MR as a place where people really enjoy working together, across offices and across titles. At Michelman Robinson, we’ve embraced a more modern, streamlined approach to recruiting summer associates—one that reflects the changing landscape of law firm hiring. Rather than relying on traditional on-campus interviews, we encourage motivated and high-achieving law students to reach out to us directly.
Those interested in joining our dynamic team are invited to submit their resumes, which are thoughtfully reviewed by our hiring committee. From there, selected candidates move into the interview process, where they have the opportunity to learn more about our firm, showcase their skills, and envision a future at MR. This personalized, proactive process allows us to connect early with standout talent who share our entrepreneurial spirit and commitment to excellence.
Once hired, our diverse group of summers enjoy a hands-on work experience at the firm, working closely with lawyers across practice areas and gaining invaluable strategic and industry insights. In fact, summer associates at Michelman Robinson are trained to be lawyers from day one, writing motions, drafting briefs, and attending depositions, transactions and regulatory matters.
