M&R is excited to announce that Amanda K. Monroe has ascended to partner at the firm. She’s a sought-after employment litigator, best known for her extraordinary work defending single plaintiff and collective actions (class action and PAGA claims) involving wage and hour issues. Amanda is also relied upon by management for advice and counsel on a range of operational items of importance to employers across industries, the hospitality space included. Mona Hanna’s standing as one of the nation’s preeminent litigators has been confirmed yet again—this time by the Orange County Business Journal, which has included Mona in the OC500 published this week. The OC 500 is a yearly compilation of the 500 most influential people in Orange County, and Mona’s work in high-stakes class actions, her record of courtroom victories (oftentimes defending “bet the company” lawsuits), and her efforts within M&R, where she is the National Complex & Class Action Trial Chair and OC Managing Partner, have cemented Mona’s place among some of the most extraordinary individuals in OC.
One of M&R’s newest additions has received a tremendous honor. Arie Smith, a member of the firm’s Class Action & Complex Litigation Practice Group, has been selected by The National Black Lawyers for inclusion into its Top 40 Under 40 Black Lawyers in New York.
This is big news. The recognition is bestowed upon only 40 African American attorneys under the age of 40 in each state—young lawyers with reputations for providing excellent legal representation in their respective practice areas. M&R NY is lucky to have one of these extraordinary professionals in Arie.

We’ve taken over the 31st floor at 717 Texas, a 33-story, 697,541-square-foot office tower nestled in Houston’s vibrant northern Downtown, just steps away from the Theater District and the historic Market Square Park.Our much larger footprint—which spans 17 offices, conference rooms, a café and open workspaces—will accommodate M&R Houston’s measured growth going forward, all under the watchful eye of our Office Managing Partner there, Lauren Varnado. The expanded office will also continue to serve as the national hub for M&R’s energy-related practice, including our sought-after oil and gas litigation work.Firm leadership—Sanford Michelman, Dana Kravetz and Lauren Varnado—sees the expansion as a demonstration of our commitment to the market and recruitment in Houston, specifically, and throughout the Southwest more broadly.
